Alcohol Awareness Event at Troon Men’s Shed

Troon Men’s Shed hosted a successful Alcohol Awareness Event today, with more than 30 members attending to learn more about alcohol, its impact on health and wellbeing, the choices available to those who may wish to reduce their alcohol intake, and where to obtain help.

Members were joined by Kerry from Ayrshire Council on Alcohol and Michael from Alcohol Change UK, who delivered an informative presentation and led discussions around alcohol awareness. The event provided the opportunity for members to learn more, ask questions and discuss the issues surrounding alcohol.

Ayrshire Council on Alcohol provides free and confidential support to people who are concerned about their own drinking, as well as support for families affected by someone else’s alcohol use. Their trained counsellors can help people who want to stop drinking or reduce their alcohol consumption to a less harmful level.

There was also an opportunity to try something a little different, with Linsey from the Co-op providing a fantastic selection of alcohol-free drinks and mocktails for members to taste. The range of drinks proved that choosing an alcohol-free option doesn’t mean missing out.

A big thank you to Ayrshire Council on Alcohol, Alcohol Change UK and the Co-op for supporting the event and helping to make it such an informative and enjoyable event.

It was another great example of the Men’s Shed providing not only a place to meet and socialise, but also opportunities for members to learn, share experiences and look after their health and wellbeing.
