Hosiery Park Pavilion

We had been searching for our own premises that would allow workshop activities to be undertaken as well as meetings, and identified the old Hosiery Park Pavilion as a suitable building for conversion into a Men’s Shed.

The pavilion is owned by South Ayrshire Council and was used as changing rooms for football teams using the adjacent Hosiery Park football pitches. New changing rooms have recently been built and so the old building is no longer required.

Our Community Asset Transfer (CAT) request to acquire the building for £1 was approved by South Ayrshire Council on 16 June 2026 and we are currently working with them to complete the purchase.

The building has been unused for a number of years, has not been maintained and is in a poor condition.

South Ayrshire Council have recently carried out a full condition survey to identify the work that is required to bring the building back up to standard.

As part of our Community Asset Transfer application we have been awarded a Capital Grant from the Advancing Community Assets Fund to enable essential repairs to be carried out.

Once the building has been acquire it will be refurbished, and converted to provide a new permanent home for Troon Men’s Shed.

At the heart of the building is a community space, supported by a workshop, kitchen, toilets (including an accessible facility), a small office, and storage areas.

Together, these spaces will provide an environment where members can socialise, share skills, take part in practical projects, and enjoy community activities.

When not being used as a Men’s Shed, the community space will be available for other community groups to use.

The new Men’s Shed facility will be:

  • Healthy & Pleasant: It will provide a safe, welcoming environment for social interaction, skill-sharing, and community activities.
  • Connected: The site is well linked to existing pedestrian and cycle routes and is close to a bus stop, encouraging sustainable travel.
  • Distinctive: The redevelopment retains the character of the existing pavilion while enhancing its role as a community hub.
  • Sustainable: The building will incorporate photovoltaic panels with battery storage and air source heat pumps.
  • Adaptable: The design allows multifunctional use for Troon Men’s Shed and other community groups, supporting long-term flexibility.

These designs and plan for the project have been developed by our architects, Thomson Hunter Associates, and will provide a modern and energy efficient facility for our members to use. A planning application for the alterations to the building was approved in December 2025.

Significant funding will be required to turn these plans into reality, and we are working to apply for grants to enable the development to take place.

If you are able to assist with enabling our shed to be developed, either with funding or by providing materials and/or labour, then please get in contact with us.
