Decorating at Ayrshire Cancer Support in Kilmarnock

At Troon Men’s Shed, we love a project that lets us roll up our sleeves and give back to the local community and we recently completed a very rewarding piece of voluntary work at the Ayrshire Cancer Support centre in Kilmarnock.

The charity provides incredible, free emotional and practical support to people affected by cancer across Ayrshire, and when we heard that their therapy space needed a bit of TLC, our members were eager to help.

Eight members of Troon Men’s Shed got out their paintbrushes and rollers, and over the course of two weeks they completely transformed two treatment rooms at the Kilmarnock centre from top to bottom, painting the ceilings, walls and woodwork.

We couldn’t have undertaken this project without the materials provided by Screwfix and Johnstone’s Decorating Centre in Ayr and we are very grateful for their support.

The goal was to create a fresh, peaceful, and welcoming environment for patients and families visiting the centre, and the final results look fantastic.

Projects like this remind us what the Men’s Shed is all about – friendship, purpose, and supporting the community that supports us.

If you want to take part in future community projects then join as a member, or come along to one of our meetings to find out more about what we do.
